Level Up LIVE 2008 Summary
Level Up Live and the Ragnarok World Championships 2008 is now in the books! It will historically go down once again as the biggest online gaming event in the country. Personally I believe that this year’s event was the best ever produced by Level Up. Like what GM Tristan said, it’s an event of many firsts. I’ve made soooooo many posts about Level Up Live and the Ragnarok World Championships for the past few days and I’ve decided to make this summary post with links to all the Live entries that I’ve made. Meeting the Gravity CEO
Other than the players that came from all over the world, we also had executives and directors from various gaming companies who went to the Ragnarok World Championships. We had a welcome VIP dinner for them at the Tower Club in Makati City. It was there that I got to know Gravity’s CEO - Yong Seuk Kang and the Ragnarok Creator Myung Jin Lee. What’s funny is that most of the executives at the dinner looked very young - and most of them were really gamers at heart. It’s nice to see that the core teams of the various publishing companies know what their market is all about.

Thailand Upsets Team Philippines (2-0)
RWC 2007 Champion Thailand defended their title this morning by defeating the host country team of the Philippines. Team PH did their best but they weren’t able to keep up with the aggressive tactics of the defending champions. The first game ended with Thailand having more players while the second match resulted in a wipe-out. However, all is not yet lost. Since Team Philippines lost in the Semi-Finals, they can still win 3rd place later this evening. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed! I’ll be cheering for them later on when they take on their next opponent.
What’s interesting to note here is that Thailand is really proving to everyone that they are a solid force to be reckoned with in the virtual arena. Will we see a repeat of last year’s finals wherein Thailand takes on Korea? We’ll find out later this afternoon when RWC 2008 resumes!
To those, who haven’t been to LIVE yet, be sure to be here before 4PM. Cosplay starts then and we also have the battle for 3rd place for Team Philippines. Don’t also forget that the Filharmoik orchestra will be playing your favorite game themes at around 5PM-6PM.

Game Heroes Website Major Update
Game Heroes, the hall of fame website of Level Up Games, recently had a major update to include the qualified teams from other countries in the upcoming Ragnarok World Championships 2008. The update isn’t 100% done yet but you can already check the website out now and see the teams from Taiwan, China, and of course the Philippine Team. A new feature to the site is also the revamped home page which is now more editorial than basic images. We’ve also changed the background music to the official theme of RWC 2008 - Barrio.
If you haven’t checked out Game Heroes before, now would be a good time to visit the site. It’s really more dynamic, updated, and definitely cooler. You’ll see more faces across all the titles and we will continue to update this even after LIVE is finished. Game Heroes will be an integral part of Level Up in the coming months.

RWC 2008 Theme Song - Barrio
Just last night, Level Up unveiled the theme song of Ragnarok World Championships 2008. The song is amptly named “Barrio”, which is Tagalog for a Filipino town or village. The song is all about defending your home - which is perfect for the theme of this year’s Ragnarok World Championships. The song was made by a Cebu Rock band named Powerspoonz and I can honestly say that they are one of the best Filipino rock bands I’ve ever heard. You can expect a lot of great things from these guys and I wouldn’t be surprised if they make it big time in the coming months.
I’d like to invite all of you to visit the Level Up Music Website and listen to the song. You can also listen to it on the Game Heroes website. Listen to the song first then come back here and let me know what you think. Personally, I believe that the song is kick ass and it really captures the Ragnarok generation here in the Philippines.
