Gamers Pay Tribute to President Aquino
You know that someone is special when people from all walks of life pay tribute in any way that they can. A few days after President Cory Aquino passed away, gamers from Grand Chase paid tribute to her through a special custom in-game event prepared by Level Up and the developers of the game – KOG Studios. Other than the in-game event, messages of condolences also flooded the Grand Chase forums as gamers from various parts of the country expressed their feelings for Tita Cory. It’s amazing how in death Tita Cory was able to unite the Filipino people once more. Gamers are usually very competitive so it was refreshing to see them banded together expressing their sorrow over what happened. Let me share with you the details of the in-game event that Grand Chase did for Tita Cory after the break.
Grand Chase gamers who log in anytime from Aug 4-10 get a special yellow ribbon and flower that they can offer at the Altar for Cory Aquino inside the game. It’s a simple but meaningful gesture of love for the late former President. For more details on the mechanics, you might want to visit the Grand Chase website.

Among all the characters currently playable, I find Lass to be one of the most interesting in terms of skill and background story. Unlike the other characters, he has a darker side which was in full control of him when he was under the influence of Kazeaze. It has been several months since Lass was freed from KazeAaze’s evil clutches. Although his unquestionable loyalty and exceptional skills as Master Thief have always proved vital to the rest of the Grand Chase warriors, Lass was still haunted by his dreadful past. Each night he was awakened by the same terrible nightmare: a darker side of him that had once claimed the lives of innocent victims is now waiting to be unleashed again.
Fearing of endangering everyone whom he now considered as his friends; Lass decided to leave the Grand Chase team in secret. On the night of his planned departure, as he was about to pass the gates of Seredin castle, a gentle and yet familiar voice spoke from atop the castle walls.
“Is it customary, even for a Master Thief, to suddenly steal himself away from his friends?” called out the Warlock named Arme as she leapt to where Lass is standing.
“No, but it certainly would save me a lot of time”, Lass grimly replied.
“I have always known about your heavy burden, Lass,” said Arme. “Even during our battles with KazeAaze’s forces, I have felt a great conflict within you. Don’t let it dictate who you really are,” she added with utmost concern.
“Not even your vast knowledge of science can understand nor help what I’m dealing with, Arme.
“My dear Lass,” she said in a very reassuring tone. “It’s when science fails that magic comes to play!”Deep within the forests of Seredin, Lass sat silently on a barren ground as Arme, performs a series of ancient arcane rituals that may help free Lass from his dreaded nightmares. While he was in a deep trance, Lass fought with his dark other self. After hours of trashing and screaming, he soon discovered that only by accepting the darkness within could he end his nightmares; and even, control it to his own advantage.
This is when Lass realized that his nightmares were actually a calling; that his time as a Master Thief is now over. When he eventually came back from his trance, Lass slowly opened his eyes as a newly transformed being. Surprisingly, he has gained new skills that greatly enhanced his overall attack speed. Through this newfound ability, Lass has finally acquired his second job — he has now embraced the darkness as a powerful Assassin!
The Assassin’s greatest advantage is his dash: he can perform a double dash on the ground, dash in any location, speed up his dash after the second dash, and freely change direction to chase fleeing enemies. Due to Lass’ greater attack speed, he can now instantly finish enemies at close range; though he may need to change his attack strategies according to how his enemies move.
As an Assassin, Lass now has 3 new skill levels at his disposal: Frenzy Sword (LV1), a basic triple slash skill that inflicts more damage when used in conjunction with his basic combo attack; Splash Explosion (LV2), uses the chain on his left arm to attack and perform multiple hits; and Deadly Sharp (LV3), an incredibly powerful, but random attack that focuses all his energy to do a great deal of damage.
It was already dawn when Lass and Arme left the forest of Seredin. The nightmares are finally over, Lass thought as he gave a sigh of relief. Then he gave Arme a brief smile; something that he hasn’t done for a long time. Now, it’s time to free Bermesiah from its own nightmare – a nightmare known as KazeAaze!

A Hero Behind Enemy Lines.
When Grand Chase Headquarters released information revealing the location of KazeAaze’s Castle, the order to siege her stronghold was given. Though heavily fortified, the brave warriors of Grand Chase broke through, and they finally came face to face with KazeAaze herself, or so they thought…
Sitting atop KazeAaze’s Castle was none other than Lass - the Master Thief! It turned out that Lass was abducted by KazeAaze and was being used to do her bidding. Corrupted by the evil queen’s influence, Lass fought against the warriors of Grand Chase; but the unified team was able to thwart his advances and defeated him.
Finally released from KazeAaze’s control, Lass felt ashamed that he was used as an instrument of evil. To make up for his faults, he vowed to aid in the quest in ridding the world of KazeAaze once and for all.
Lass is now ready for recruitment, and adds his skills and abilities to the current roster of Elesis, Lire, Arme, and Ronan!
Stealthy and deadly, Lass is a Master Thief who is able to wield dual daggers in combination with his lightning fast reflexes and extreme agility. In tandem, these skills can be used to great effect when traversing dangerous lands and fending off monsters. A versatile fighter as well, Lass is able to execute rapid attacks both on ground and in air. Skilled in both ranged and close quarter combat, Lass is an essential addition to the original roster.
Acquiring his services is easy! Just secure his mission scroll, and complete the required task to unlock Lass as a playable character.
The quest to destroy KazeAaze and finally free Bermesiah from evil continues. With Lass joining the elite warriors of Grand Chase, the evil queen herself should also start watching her back!
I’m definitely dumping Ronan for a while so I can play Lass, hahaha!

Going to Cebu’s Sinulog Festival 2009
I’ll be flying out to Cebu next week to join Level Up and SMART BRO in celebrating the annual Sinulog Festival. I’m really excited since this will be my first time and I’ll finally be able to see what the Sinulog is all about. Grand Chase Updates: Elesis 1st Job Class, Cash Bonus, and More!
Thanks to everyone who welcomed me back in my other post. Anyway, let’s kick things off with an update on Level Up’s latest game, Grand Chase! To those who don’t know, Grand Chase is now one of the most played games among the titles being offered by Level Up. It’s a great and simple fighting game that has taken the country by storm. For Grand Chase, we have tons of new game contents that we’re releasing in the coming weeks. Today we’re coming out with the 1st job class of Elesis - the Spearman. Grand Chase Open Beta Celebration Events
First - let me give you guys an update on the OBT for Grand Chase. Maintenance has been extended until 2:00PM since we encountered some last minute bugs that needed to be fixed before we could bring up the game. I can’t guarantee that it will be up at exactly 2PM but the team is really trying their best to have it up and running by that time. Anyway, that’s the bad news… now for the good news! KOG, the developers of Grand Chase, have come up with several in-game Open Beta celebration events and activities for Grand Chase! There’s a bunch of quests that you can do and you also get free items as long as you log-in everyday during the OBT period. Oh, we’re also having the first ever EXP mod as well. Happy Halloween Everyone! Rawr!
Hi guys! I just wanted to greet everyone a happy halloween! Grabe, time really flies by so fast. In just a matter of days we’ll be closing 2008 and we’ll move on to 2009. But the year is not over yet! There’s still so many things that’s in store for the Level Up community for November and December. Let me try to give you guys a preview on what Level Up has in store for the last two months of 2008.
For Ragnarok alone we have the upcoming Server Merge which will bring about the “New Chaos”. The subscription servers of Baldur, Freya, and Tyr will be merged into one entity. I can’t imagine how much this will change the political landscape of the game! New alliances will be born, and I’m sure thousands of Ragnarok players will be coming back to test the game again because of the new community. I’m very excited for this project and this was one of the last things I discussed with a few guild leaders several months ago. I’m happy that it’s finally going to push through.
We also announced new games in Level Up Live 2008 - I’m pretty sure that we’ll be starting testing for those games soon. We have new games for everyone! Hello Kitty, Emil Chronicle, and Rohan Online will attract casual gamers, hardcore gamers, and non-gamers alike. Among the titles though I’m very excited with Hello Kitty because that means we will see more girls come Level Up Live 2009.
Of course the biggest news for November will be the Open Beta of Grand Chase! The newest fighting game of Level Up will definitely be a huge hit in the Philippines. It’s fast paced, action-packed, and very easy to learn. Don’t forget that it’s also Free-to-play. But more than anything, I’m very excited with working with the developers of Grand Chase, KOG Studios. They have a very good reputation on working really fast on bugs, hacks, and cheats.
For Crazy Kart - we’ll be having major patch updates in the coming weeks which will give you guys new maps, karts, and a bunch of items. If you thought that the pinoy jeep, owner, and FX were the only Pinoy things you’ll see in CK, you’re in for a huge surprise!

Grand Chase now on CBT!
Grand Chase, the latest game to be published by Level Up, is now officially on Closed Beta Testing! As of around 1:15PM today, we’ve opened the servers up to all the players who were able to get CBT accounts through the website or through the live events that we sponsored in the past few weeks. The Grand Chase Team is working double time on getting th forums up so you guys can start discussing the game features and report bugs so please wait for that one. Grand Chase CBT Starts On October 14, 2008!
For the past few days, we’ve been getting calls, e-mails, and comments about how the Grand Chase CBT client doesn’t work. Well er… that’s because it’s not yet open to the public guys. We just let you download the client and get your accounts in advance so there won’t be any traffic during opening day. Anyway, the good news is that we now have a sure date on when we will start CBT. On October 14, 2008, we will open CBT and we’re inviting all of you to join in on the fun! Grand Chase will surely be the next big thing in the Philippines and it would be bad if you missed out on all the action.
If you haven’t signed up for a CBT account, please visit the Grand Chase website and get one. Note that you don’t have to win a raffle to get the CBT account! All you have to do is to input your e-mail address and we’ll send you the account information in 1-2 days. After getting the account, just download the client through the Grand Chase website as well. By the way, feel free to drop by at the Cosplay Mania event on October 12. We have a public GC game trial there and we will be giving away Grand Chase installers, CBT accounts, and posters for FREE!
