Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 20
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 20 was just released a few hours ago. I was able to watch it and I was actually excited to do so because it was getting a lot of good reviews from my friends and other anime fans. FMA Episode 20 doesn’t have too much action in terms of fight scenes but it packs a punch in terms of plot development and twists. At this point in the show you really see a major difference between this new series and the old one. I’m very happy that the producers decided to do a remake based on the manga because the story is waaaaaaay better than the old one. Props to the writer and the crew who made this all possible. Anyway, quick synopsis and review of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 20 after the break!
Hohenheim comes home and meets Ed. Over dinner, he explains to the Rockbell grandma that the person that came out of the transmutation of Ed and Al wasn’t Tricia. Ed overhears this and is shocked out of his boots. The following morning Hohenheim leaves and gives a warning that the country will be in big trouble soon.
Ed decides to dig up the corpse of what they transmuted. He later confirms that the hair color isn’t the same with his mom and finds out that the skeletal structure even says that the body was that of a man’s. Ed calls up his former master, Izumi, and asks her to double check if the baby that was transmuted was actually hers.
The elder Elric brother goes back to Central and explains what he did to Al and Winry. He then goes on to explain that his findings give him confidence that he can actually get back Al’s body. Ed then gets a call from Izumi confirming that the transmutation product was not actually her baby. This information sets the Elric brothers and Izumi free from their guilt that they killed their mother/baby when they transmuted them.
That’s about it for Full Metal Alchemist Episode 20. It may not sound much but I strongly suggest you guys watch it. Other than the plot changes, the artists really did well with the animation and they also put in a kick-ass soundtrack (especially the last part). I personally cannot wait for Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 21!

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 19
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 19 has been out since Monday. I was really excited for this episode since the previous one ended in a major cliffhanger. To those who were able to watch the last ep, we saw Hawkeye getting cornered by Gluttony and Roy Mustang screaming in frustration as he hears the battle ensue between his subordinate and the Homonculous. FMA Brotherhood 19 didn’t disappoint. In fact, it’s one of the most action-packed and fast paced episodes I’ve ever watch so far in this new remake. What’s even more interesting is that they decided to focus on one of my favorite characters – Roy Mustang. Man… this guy is really amazing. I love it how the writers are able to perfectly blend the humor and the drama in the script. Anyway, full review of the episode after the break.
FMA Brotherhood Episode 19 Review
Episode starts off with a bang as Gluttony attacks Hawkeye. She barely manages to live as she’s saved by the cute dog and one of her colleagues. However, they run out of bullets and just before Gluttony takes them both out, a burst of fire blasts the rabid Homonculous out of the tower, sending his burnt body crashing down to the streets below. Roy Mustang saves the day!~
Hawkeye, Mustang, Jean, and Al chase down the real physical body of Barry. The psychotic armor leads the hunt as he’s able to sense the presence of his former body. Eventually they track Barry down to Research Laboratory 3. The armor goes in and attacks, giving the team an excuse to come in as if they were hunting down the lose armor.
Inside they split up into two teams – Hawkeye/Al and Mustang/Jean. Mustang’s team is suddenly attacked by another Homonculous – Lust, the Ultimate Spear. Lust easily impales Jean and manages to also critically wound Mustang. After sending both of them down, Lust moves on to attack Hawkeye, Al, and the armor. However, before she’s able to rend Al into pieces, Mustang steps in again for the save.
Apparently to save himself Mustang burned his wounds to close them. He then blasts Lust again and again with his flames until the Homonculous finally dies and the Philosopher’s Stone inside of her falls to the ground and crumbles.
In the other side of the world, Edward visits his old town again after he’s given an errand by an Ishbalan group of people. Apparently the parents of Winry were able to save countless of lives during the Ishbal war. One of the elders relates to Ed to deliver a message to the graves of Winry’s parents thanking them and saying sorry since both of them were killed by an Ishbalan they treated (which turns out to be Scar).
As he’s on his way home, Ed sees a very familiar man standing over the grave of his mother. Apparently his father decided to finally come back.
Talk about ending the episode in another cliffhanger! Can’t wait for Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 20! Hopefully it’s just as good as this one.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 17
Now that I have internet connection at home, I can go back blogging about my favorite anime series - Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. It’s been a while so please excuse the long absence. I was just able to watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 17 and the turn of events in this episode really caught me by surprise. I’m not following the manga for this series so each episode is a treat for me. This particular episode shows how different the new series is from the old FMA. A lot of character development for the side characters and one of my favorites - Roy Mustang. That dude is one of the most exciting, mysterious, and coolest characters in the series. He sucks though when it rains, haha. Anyway, synopsis and a quick review after the break.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 17
The episode starts out a bit heavy with Maria Ross being questioned by Douglas about her connection with the death of Hughes. Apparently the military is trying to pin the murder of Hughes on Ross - something that was hinted by Envy in the previous episode so that they could shut up Roy Mustang who was investigating the death of his old friend. Douglas masterfully counters all of the defense brought up by Ross and eventually declares that she was the one who killed Hughes.
Acting on someone’s orders, Barty the Chopper breaks into the jail and frees Maria Ross. On his way, he also sets Ling free. The three cons quickly make their way out of the prison. On their way to “freedom”, they’re blocked by the Elric brothers. Barty orders Ross to go to the alley. However, Ross is suddenly stopped by Roy Mustang. He snaps his fingers and “blows” up the entire area. At this point, Edward and Al slips through Barty and they find themselves staring at Mustang glaring over a burnt corpse.
It looks like Roy Mustang killed Maria Ross. This gets Edward all emo and the two have an argument about how a soldier should behave.
The episode ends with Mustang sending Lt. Armstrong and Edward Elric on a mission to go to the East. Envy and Lust, on the other hand, are getting ready to set free what looks like another Barty the Chopper (but alive) to track down the dead armor one.
Review
Again, superb animation and story development for FMA 17. It’s high time they spent some air time on Mustang, seeing as he’s one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise. In the end of the episode, Mustang says that finally “there are no more hinderances.” Could this mean that he has a more complex plain in the works to uncover the real killer of Hughes? Maybe he didn’t actually kill Ross?
Can’t wait to watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 18!

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 12
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 12 was released early this week. Since PLDT still hasn’t dropped by my place to install my internet connection, I’m a bit delayed with blog updates (as most of you have probably noticed by now). Anyway, moving on, FMA Brotherhood 12 focuses again on character/plot development. This time we’re introduced to the master of the Elric brothers, Izumi. I find her to be one of the most interesting characters in the series. She has a really good background and she’s very prominent in the major events of the series. Review and synopsis of FMA Brotherhood 12 after the break.
Review and Synopsis
Al and Ed finally reach the house of their old master. They’re greeted quite harshly, with Al getting a roundhouse kick from Izumi as her hello. This was a really funny scene. It was hilarious seeing both brothers cower at the sight of their former master. At this point the episode shifts to a rather long flashback showing how the two kids met Izumi and how they became her apprentices.
After the death of their mom, the Elric brothers find Izumi after she saves the village by using alchemy to stop a flood. They immediately pester her to take them as students and she eventually agrees to take them with her but she will have to test them first if they are worthy of learning alchemy. She leaves the two brothers in an island.
In this island the two brothers realize the true meaning of alchemy - life and the concept of equivalent exchange. After successfully proving themselves, Izumi formally takes them on as students.
We shift back to the discussion of Izumi and the brothers. Ed finally realizes that Izumi can also do transmutation without the circle because she did something similar to what they did. He confronts her and Izumi answers by sparring with the two kids. She finds out about the automail and that Al is just an empty piece of armor. They all sit down again to talk thing out and in this conversation she reveals that she tried to revive her dead baby through alchemy, and in exchange she lost several of her internal organs.
The episode ends with Izumi hugging the two brothers. This is a beautiful scene because before the hug, the two kids were trying to put up a strong face about what happened. However her hug totally disarms them and the two start crying. Finally they can stop acting so tough and be kids.
For a guy like me who totally digs action flicks and kinda is bored to hell by drama, I really find FMA Brotherhood to be very entertaining. It has the right mix that will really tug at your heart by drawing so many emotions from you.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 10
Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Brotherhood Episode 10 was released earlier this week. I wasn’t able to write about it since I just moved and I don’t have internet connection yet. I’ve only been able to catch up on my anime this weekend (currently at a friend’s house). Anyway, hopefully next week my connection will be up and running already. FMA Brotherhood 10 is an emotional roller coaster that will really tug at your heart. The writer really made it impossible for viewers not to have a connection with the central characters of this episode. Details after the break.
FMA Brotherhood Episode 10 Review
The episode starts out a bit slow, mostly revolving around the next steps of the Elric brothers. Ed and Al decide to seek out their master because they believe that she can make the both of them stronger. They also need to discuss with her possible next steps for the Philosopher’s Stone. Winry manages to convince them to bring her along since she wants to come along to visit one of the cities that is considered the “mecca” of automail. Without too much fanfare, the three depart without escorts.
The episode then shifts the focus to Hughes and his family. After some touching moments with Gracia and her daughter, Hughes digs deeper into the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone and what happened in Laboratory 5. He eventually discovers that the military was behind everything and that the deaths that happened in Ishbal and the current wars are all related. Before he shares this information with Mustang, he’s cornered by Lust.
He manages to escape death, though he’s seriously wounded with one of Lust’s attacks. Hughes escapes the building and tries to call Mustang on a public phone. Before he’s able to speak with him though he’s found by Wrath.
Hughes tries to retaliate but he stops as Wrath morphs into the appearance of his wife. This gives Wrath the window of opportunity to gun down Hughes, killing him.
The saddest part of this episode is Hughes’ funeral. Hearing Elicia cry out asking why her dad is being buried.
Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Brotherhood 11 appears to focus on Ed, Al, and Winry when they arrive at the Automail mecca city. It should be out by Monday. Hopefully I’ll be able to watch it and post a review early next week.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 9
I just finished watching Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Brotherhood Episode 9. Compared to the previous episodes, this one is more serious and really focuses on the character development of the Elric brothers and to some extent, Winry Rockbell. FMA Brotherhood 9 basically revolves around the dilemma presented in FMA Brotherhood 8, which was what Bart the Chopper said to Al that he wasn’t actually real - that he’s a fake being created by Ed. If I were given the liberty of giving a title to this episode, I’d definitely make it “Emo Al”. There are so many classic telenovela moments scattered all over the episode. Review and synopsis of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 9 after the break.
The first part is actually a bit funny. Ed is trying to muster enough courage to call Winry and ask her if she can come over to central to fix his arm. When Winry arrives the show turns into a riot! It’s nice to see how much she really cares for Edward. I’m sure that almost all fans of FMA would love to see these guys get hitched someday. Anyway, she’s easily able to fix the arm since it broke because of her in the first place (she forgot to put in a screw during her previous maintenance job).
Hughes finds out that Winry doesn’t have a place yet to stay so he literally drags her home so that she’ll meet his family. Winry meets cute and adorable Elicia, Hughes’ 2 year old daughter who’s celebrating her birthday. One of my favorite scenes in this ep was when Hughes pulled out a gun to scare away the young boys who were fighting over who would get to play with Elicia.

Anyway, fast forward the next day we see Ed and Al in a bitter verbal fight. Al takes offense when Ed says that he’s better off already since he’s already big. Al lets everything out, complaining and “emoing” like your typical bratty soul-trapped-in-an-amor. Eventually Ed gets out of the room and shortly after Winry knocks down Al with a brutal hit with her wrench. She goes to explain that it’s highly improbable that someone would risk their life just to make a “fake brother”. Winry emos with Al and then tells him to follow after Ed.

The two brothers find themselves on the roof of the hospital where they have a quick and rather one-sided match. The two then have a heart-to-heart talk and here they bury whatever doubts they have and decide to focus on getting stronger so that they can get their bodies back. Really touching moment.
Episode ends with Scar waking up to find himself in a slum area. He’s being taken care of by a couple of Ishbalan survivors.
Over-all I kinda like this episode. Even though it was heavy and was really focused on advancing the plot and character development, it wasn’t dragging and boring. It had the right mix of comedy, especially with Hughes and Winry in the episode. I can’t wait for FMA Brotherhood Episode 10! Rawr!

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 8

I was really excited to watch Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Brotherhood Episode 8 since last week. FMA Brotherhood Episode 7 was a cliffhanger and I wanted to see how the new series would treat this segment of the story arc. In this new episode, we see the Elric brothers enter Laboratory 5. Inside, Ed confirms a horrible theory, while outside Al begins to question his humanity. Review after the break.
Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Brotherhood Episode 8
In the last episode, a demonic armored creature jumped from the roof of Laboratory 5 to attack Alphonse. It’s a good thing though that he’s fast as he’s able to dodge the attack. The creature introduces itself as number 66. Inside the laboratory, Edward meets his opponent, another armored sword-wielding guardian who introduces himself only as 48. The two engage in melee, with 48 with the distinct advantage. After Edward avoids several attacks and finds out that he’s fighting an empty armor, 48 lets Ed know his real name and confirms his original theory about Laboratory 5.
The living armor is actually named Slicer and 48 was his number of Death Row. In the war against Ishbal, the army transmuted criminals on death row to become Philosopher’s Stones.
Back outside, Alphonse knocks off 66’s head, revealing that he’s also another living armor. 66 re-introduces himself as Barry the Chopper, an infamous homicidal murderer who loves to chop live humans up. Barry begins to psyche out Alphonse by telling him that he is no longer human and that his soul has been lost.
Inside the laboratory, Ed is obviously outmatched. He’s pushed to the corner but manages to take off the head of Slicer. To Ed’s surprise, the body moves separately and manages to seriously wound him. Apparently Slicer is made up of two brothers - both of which were affixed to the armor suit. Just before Ed is killed, he remembers Scar’s technique and uses it against the armor. He stops his transmutation at deconstruction and manages to literally blow up Slicer’s body.
Ed picks himself up and starts to interrogate the helmet. Before he gets his answers though Envy and Lust make an appearance, destroying Slicer before he could answer Ed. Having lost so much blood, Ed is knocked out by a vicious knee by Envy. Lust then decides that they should blow up the Laboratory so that no one would find out what really happened.
Episode ends with Roy Mustang’s men saving Al from Barry and Envy bringing Edward’s unconscious body outside for treatment.
Wooo! I’m loving this so much. Can’t wait to watch Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Brotherhood Episode 9.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 5

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 5 was just recently released and man, let me just say that the writers, artists, and animators are doing an excellent job so far. I just finished watching it a few minutes ago and I was really amazed at how they keep on having such a good balance of comedy, drama, and ass-kicking in every episode. Make sure you watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 5 because it has one of the best and funny fight scenes so far. Review and synopsis after the break!
FULL METAL ALCHEMIST BROTHERHOOD EPISODE 5 REVIEW
The episode picks up from the previous one where Lior was plunged into anarchy and chaos after the true colors of the High Priest was revealed to the public. The city is plunged into internal conflict and the Homunculus are loving every second of it. At this point we’re also introduced to one of the more popular antagonists in the previous version of FMA - the Homunculus Envy. Anyway, after a quick cut scene in Lior, the cameras go back to Central City where Al and Ed are struggling to come to terms with what happened to Nina and Shou Tucker in Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 4.
Scar attacks Edward and Al while they’re reflecting on what has happened so far with their life. Scar is brutal, relentless, and merciless in his attack. He pushes both brothers back with such savage fury that they really didn’t stand a chance against his onslaught. The two try to retreat but they both end up getting blown to bits in select parts of their body. Al almost explodes and just has around 70% of his body left. Edward’s arm is destroyed when Scar manages to catch him in the middle of his attack.
Before Scar can finish Edward off, Roy Mustang and the gang makes a timely save. Roy tries to take on scar but he’s quickly saved by Hawkeye because he really has no powers when it’s raining. Why? Because he can’t snap his fingers to generate friction for his fire attacks. Love it how Hawkeye says “You’re impotent in the rain!”
Before Scar massacres everyone, another State Alchemist steps in to confront him. Strong Arm Alchemist Armstrong engages Scar in an exciting 1 on 1 fight. The two are a good match with Armstrong matching and maybe even surpassing Scar’s agility and power. The fight stops when Hawkeye manages to graze Scar with a gunshot, revealing the color of his eyes and his race - Ishbalan. Ishbal is a country that was destroyed by State Alchemists several years ago. The motive of Scar’s recent actions are given light - he’s out for vengeance.
The alchemists regroup and the Elric brothers decide that they have to move forward but in order to do so they have to fix themselves up. The episode ends with Ed telling Al that they’ll be going back home to see Winry, their childhood friend and automail mechanic.
Another masterpiece! Great job to the FMA Brotherhood team. I had a lot of fun watching this ep and I seriously can’t wait for Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 6!

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 4
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 4 sets the tone for a darker and bloodier mood for the series. To those who watched the first release of the anime, this episode is all about Shou Tucker and his daughter Nina. The plot can be downright disturbing and can definitely leave an impact on first time viewers. In fact, I still find myself a bit disturbed despite having watched the original episode a few years ago. Anyway, it’s an experience in itself to watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 4, and I strongly recommend that you guys check it out as well. By the way, I’ve already updated the Naruto Shippuuden Movie 2 post, check it out if you can. Review and synopsis after the break.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 4 Review and Synopsis
Scar is re-introduced at the beginning of the episode. He takes on Basque Gran, the “Iron Blood Alchemist”. I find Basque to be one of the most underdeveloped characters in the series - even in the first run of FMA. He can become a great antagonist, and the writers should have played more on on his ruthlessness and raw power. His battle with Scar is actually to short. Basque transmutes the floor and shoots Scar with several cannons and chains, all of which Scar evades easily. He then traps Scar in a gigantic metal wall. Does this guy even do his homework? Scar has the power to deconstruct stuff! Scar punches through the cage, grabs Basque’s head, and destroys him.
The story then shifts to the Elric brothers. Roy Mustang informs them of Shou Tucker, “Sewing Life Alchemist”, and his expertise in human transmutation and chimeras. The two brothers meet Shou and his lovely daughter Nina. Ed and Al quickly form a bond with Nina, and they play with her several times in the episode.
Shou reveals his life story - his wife left him two years ago because of poverty. He was only able to have a good life with Nina when he was accepted as a State Alchemist because of his work with Chimeras. However, he hasn’t be able to show progress with his work for quite a while now and he’s in danger of loosing his accreditation.
In fear of poverty and going back to a bad life, Shou Tucker does the unthinkable. In the middle of the night, he transmutes his daughter Nina and their dog Alexander. He manages to make a good chimera, one that’s able to talk and respond. He’s actually happy because he can now be considered a success and he can retain the “State Alchemist” title. Ed immediately picks up on the Chimera being Nina and confronts Shou. Apparently, Shou also transmuted his wife 2 years ago. This just shows how sick, depraved, and twisted the Sewing Life Alchemist is.
The episode ends with Ed and Al crying in the rain, frustrated that they can’t help bring back Nina. Scar also shows up one more time, this time ending the life of Shou Tucker and his daughter Chimera, Nina.
I agree with my officemate Jed, who said in his Plurk that this re-make is a bit lighter compared to the first run. However, like what I said in my intro, it can still be a bit disturbing. FMA Brotherhood continues the emotional roller coaster ride with this episode and I can’t wait to watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 5.
