SMART BRO Connectivity Problems?

I just noticed that my comment approval que is filled with gamers complaining about connectivity issues once again with the SMART BRO ISP. I believe that the Head of our ICT Department has already taken steps to inform SMART BRO about this but just to be sure, can you guys help me out by giving me some details that I can send to his team? It’s the same drill - tracert IP command. Details after the jump.

1. Go to Command Prompt
2. Type “tracert 202.57.117.1″
3. Copy paste the results to the comments section below

Please post the results and include your ISP, location, and what game you play that you can’t access. Thanks and my sincere apologies to everyone who’s getting hassled by this.

FYI you can check out my recent posts - Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow and Gundam Season 2 Episode 25 (Finale).

Huxley MMO at GDC

G4 was able to get a walkthrough of the upcoming MMOFPS Huxley at GDC. The video talks about the different classes players will be able to choose from as well as the different types of areas and combat within the game.

Here’s a quick rundown for those of you who don’t want to watch the full 14 min video.

3 Class Types

Avenger - Media Armor Class - Medium weapon range.  Primary weapon, rocket launcher.
Enforcer - Heaver Armor Class - Close weapon range.  Primary weapons, shotgun and heavy machine gun.
Phantom - Light Armor Class - Long weapon range.  Primary weapon, sniper rifle.

As with any MMO each class has their own special skill sets.  Your characters armor has sockets, so you’ll be able to insert skill sockets into them which will give you additional skills based on your class, like invisibility or thermal vision.

2 PvP Types

PvP works just like any other FPS, you join a server/game and fight against other players.

BattleGrounds - These are battles on the server that effect the world map.
Virtual Combat - These are PvP fights that can go cross server, but do not effect the game worlds.  So that means if your friend is on another server you can still fight via Virtual Combat.

The graphics in the video look absolutely amazing for a MMO, definetly worth watching if you’re interested in Huxley.  No release date is given and closed beta testing is set for later this year.

Next Avengers Iron Man Ultron

Here’s one of the latest cartoon movies that I was able to watch last week. It’s called Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. It’s was made by Marvel and the basic plot is about the children of the Avengers stepping up to replace the previous generation in the fight against Ultron. The only Avengers who actually survived and can be seen here are: Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Vision. Everyone else was supposedly taken down by Ultron when he went on a rampage. The story actually reminds me a lot of the Matrix where the machines dominated mankind, hehe. Full review, synopsis, and screenshots after the jump.

Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow Synopsis
After the original Avengers failed to stop Ultron, Iron Man was able to safely take their children in a secret fortress in the Artic region. There, he trained them for years, letting them discover their powers as they grew. Iron Man knew that if there was hope of defeating Ultron, he would need to make sure that these children grow up to be as powerful and determined as their parents. While this is happening, Ultron is quickly conquering the entire world using an army of machines. Yes, it really reminds me of the Matrix and Terminator.

The New Avengers are composed of: James (Captain America), Pym (Giant Man), Azari (Panther), Hawkeye, andTorunn (Thor).

Ultron eventually finds out about the hidden fortress and launches an offensive against the new breed of heroes. Iron Man manages to buy the kids time, letting them escape with Vision. Iron Man is no match against Ultron and he’s eventually taken captive. The New Avengers, led by James, decides to go to Ultra City to attempt a rescue mission. They initially fail, and they’re saved by Hawkeye. They try one more time and this time succeed in freeing Tony Stark. They manage to get past Ultron as Hawkeye’s revolutionary group, the Scavengers, engage Ultron and his forces in battle so that the new heroes could slip away with Tony.

The group heads out to the dessert to find one more old Avenger that actually has the power of putting an end to Ultron’s reign - the Incredible Hulk. They find Bruce Banner but he doesn’t agree to helping them. He calms down when he sees that Tony has brought Betty with him, and the two start to talk things out. Unknown to Tony and Bruce, the young Avengers hatched a plan to bring Ultron to the Hulk so that Bruce would be forced to transform and take on Ultron.

Ultron finds his way to Hulk’s lair together with the Iron Avengers - duplicates of the Avengers in robot form. Ultron engages Hulk while the Iron Avengers take on their real and younger counterparts. This battle brings out the best in the young Avengers and they’re able to take out the robotic versions of their parents. Hulk, on the other hand, literally smashes Ultron into pieces. Before Hulk could go berserk on the kids, Betty approaches him and calms him down.

Thorunn then proceeds to get the remnants of Ultron upon learning than he will eventually regenerate. Against the wishes of her team, she flies up into space and throws Ultron’s pieces into the far flung corners of the universe. Before she dies from suffocating, she’s rescued by Thor - her father. Thor brings back to Earth and Thorunn is reunited with her team.

Over-all I liked this animation movie because I wasn’t really aware of the story of the Avengers. I only followed the Infinity Crisis series (Thanos and the gauntlet). This is a fresh take on the Marvel universe, my only complaint is that the plot seems to have been taken from the Matrix and Terminator.

Marvel is doing a good job in hyping up the upcoming real life movie adaptation of the Avengers which is slated for release in 2012. Expect more mini-animation movies to be released in the months ahead because this really looks like one of Marvel’s marketing strategies.

dd947_gdc09-wed-004-sms-0309-thumb Massively: GDC09: Best of show (to me)

This year’s Game Developers Conference has come to a close, and I just wanted to take a second here to reflect on what I got out of the show. I literally can’t count the number of times I’ve been asked, “So what was the best thing you saw so far?”. I was even asked this by a random guy in the Men’s restroom at one point. Dude, I’m trying to pee, seriously.

So these questions inspired me to write up my thoughts on what I enjoyed the most. This isn’t meant to be a complete review of every single panel and every single game company present at the convention. It’s an opinionated, slightly biased rundown of the best and brightest from an old jaded gamer who doesn’t pay any attention to anything but MMO news. So … there’s that.

9fab7_sithjedi252 Massively: The Old Republics Threat of Peace issue #3 roils with opposite of peace

And so the plot moistens. We say moisten because much like a moist and delectable cake, the third issue of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Threat of Peace webcomic is filled with sweet, sweet filling — otherwise known as lightsaber battles and political intrigue.

Between these weekly free comic updates and the newly revealed (and immaculately voiced) historical timeline, we’re likely to overdose on this MMO even before we get our hands on it. Speaking of which… when do you suppose that’ll be BioWare? We heard PAX was a pretty great place to let people try out cool games. And you know, the people of Seattle are almost cousins to Canadians!

Check out the third issue right here, and while you’re enjoying that we’ll continue to keep our eyes trained for any other updates for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Gundam 00 Season 2 Episode 25 (Finale)

I’ve been a faithful follower of Gundam 00 since their first season. I love the series because of the very rich plot combined with the intense and explosive mecha action. Gundam 00 Season 2 Episode 25 was finally shown a few nights ago and it was amazing! I can’t believe that Gundam 00 will have to stop for now but that’s life. I hope they consider making a new season for Gundam 00 because I honestly find this to be one of the best aspects/versions of Gundam that was made. Gundam 00 Season 2 Episode 25 synopsis and review after the jump!

The Innovator Showdown
In this last episode, we finally see Ribbons Almark in action. He boards a really mean looking red Gundam which resembles a Zaku with several beam cannons. It’s aptly called the Rebirth Cannon Gundam. Setsuna engages Ribbons in combat with Gundam 00 Raiser but he’s pushed back with the intensity of the beam cannons. Eventually he manages to find an opening and gets up close and personal with Ribbons. However, Setsuna is swatted away as Ribbons reveals that his Gundam also has the capability to fight in close range with the Twin Drive system.

I find Ribbons’ gundam a bit weird. I mean, the front is a gunner-type and his back transforms into a melee-sword fighter? It’s a concept that’s hard to swallow but hey he’s the final boss and he deserves the leet skills.

The two gundams battle back and forth but Setsuna gets his leg blown off by one of the beams of Ribbons. Things take a turn for the worse once again as the two other innovades come in. Both of them attempt to assist Ribbons but fortunately for Setsuna, Arios and Cherubim appears to back him up. At this point, I’m really amazed with Lockon Stratos. The guy is using a gundam with just one arm, one leg, and one gun! The two Gundam meisters easily deal with the two innovades as they weren’t able to tap into Veda for assistance.

One of my favorite scenes in this episode is when Lockon uses a 1-second Transam to lure and evade an innovade’s attack and then slams his last gun into the flank of his enemy and blows him to bits. Priceless and epic!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, both innovades are defeated but both Alleluiah and Lockon are critically injured. Setsuna then continues his face-off with Ribbons. He’s at a disadvantage until Teria comes in to make a save. He messes up Ribbons, giving Setsuna enough time to recover. However, Ribbons brings the battle back to Setsuna by using Transam and he manages to blow off Gundam 00 Raiser’s head. At this point we see another epic move. Apparently Setsuna’s special move is to “quantisize” his robot, a step short of teleportation. He avoids Ribbons’ attack, gets behind the Rebirth Cannon, and deals a deadly downward slash. Ribbons retaliates and both Gundams explode.

Ribbons manages to escape a bit and finds the old Gundam 0 which Lasse left after the power cells gave out. He installs the twin drive which he managed to tear off from Raiser and powers it up. Luckily for Setsuna, Sumeragi was able to foresee this. Setsuna is sent his old Gundam - Exia. The two then clash once again but this time without Transam or kick ass cannons and swords. The battle ends with both Gundams exploding once again.

Fast forward a few months (I think).

We now see the actual ending of Season 2. Princess Marina is able to reunite her country with the help of the Federal government. A-LAWS is disbanded and their captain commits suicide. A new government (Federation) is re-organized. Katharon is legitimized and given a seat in government.

As for the main characters:

- Louise and Saji and up together. Louise’ condition is reversed and she’s healed. Maybe because of the Gundam 00 Raiser Pure GN Particles?
- Colonel Mannequin (now General) marries Patrick. Ugh.
- Alleluiah and Marie are shown hiking and they talk about finding purpose for existence.
- Setsuna is alive! He is on board the ship with Sumeragi and the rest of Celestial Being (including Lockon) and they are on standby waiting for the next time that humanity needs them

And that concludes season 2 of Gundam 00!

I thoroughly enjoyed this Gundam series. The political flavor they injected in this particular series made it very interesting for me and I hope that they make another season. By the way, at the end of the episode, there’s a teaser for a Gundam 00 movie in 2010 - at least we have something to look forward to, haha.

Blizzard now hiring: hints at new unannounced game

March 29, 2009 by admin · Comment

Lich King - Image 1

We need someone to get us coffee. And donuts. Oh and someone to shred stuff.

It looks like Blizzard is stirring the pot again for some juicy developments behind the scenes. As some of us probably know, they’re currently working on (or at least maybe still in the planning stages) five games. They are, in no particular order:

  • StarCraft II
  • Diablo III
  • a new World of Warcraft expansion
  • a next-gen MMO
  • and a yet to be revealed game

This last item was first hinted in a statement from Blizzard’s COO, Paul Sams, back in 2006. At that time he said, “I wouldn t be surprised to see a new franchise from us at some time in the future; there s certainly a desire to do so.”

Now it seems that we’re getting some developments on that new game that they’ve yet to be revealed. Two new job postings from Blizzard indicate that they’re looking for software engineers (one for gameplay, another for client) to work on “an unannounced title.”

It’s uncertain what this unannounced game is - whether it will in fact be a new IP or something based in any of their current franchises (Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo), and more importantly, for what platform(s).

There’s a huge chance this new game is going for the PC, but after all, just yesterday, we heard in GDC that Blizz is having talks with Microsoft about that next-gen Xbox 360, which they want to be more RTS-friendly. Could it be a console game?
